Ok, so this story starts waay back in June or early July (2007) when I first got back home after dropping out of uni and was feeling low and like I needed some muso's to jam with and take my mind off of stuff for a while so I put out an ad on bristolrock.co.uk looking for like-minded souls...
And lo and behold I actually got a fairly sharpish response!!
my dear deceptionist!
If you're still interested in finding people to jam with, me and my mate
have been jamming together for years (him- bass I-Drums), and are looking
for someone new to play with.
We're both 24, own our own instruments and have extremely varied music
tastes.
We live in Nailsea (the jewel of the west), don't drive, but transport
shouldn't be problem.
both our singing abilities are, well...shit.
However, we can be a couple of funny fuckers (would I lie to you?),and I
dabble in the odd bit of MCing (noticed you're a DJ n'all), and can write a
pretty decent rhyme/song.
If you're still interested, get in touch. If needs be, we can email you an
example of us jamming.
Take it easy,
Quincy [Mike]
Could it be any more perfect? I replied, telling them I was flat broke at the moment but as soon as I had some cash we'd have to sort something out...
...a month goes by...
...and so it came to pass that I had the run of the house for a whole fortnight while my parents were away in Cornwall ;D and naturally it also came to pass that I got back in touch with Mikey, who agreed with me that it would be a pretty good idea to sort something out soon, while I still had a free house.
Two days later and I'm opening the door to four dudes, hauling drum kit and beers out of two cars, with a grin the size of the Danube plastered across my face. Mikey: drummer, reefer-man, beat enthusiast, beer-deposit. Pug: guitarist and flat-cap wearing blues-lover and their buddy and driver Dan, who insists that he has no musical talent whatsoever. As well as bringing drums and beer, Mikey also brought a zoom pedal and a little tascam 4track to see what we could conjure up come the end of the sessions. After a very brief warmup to check we were all in tune and the arrival of messrs Jon and Tom we went out back for a smoke in the evening sun to loosen-up a bit and invariably try to suss each other out.
Back inside again and I'm all nerves after the j and unfamiliar faces, and with a considerable bout of the shakes. As is often the case on first nights, the setup wasn't so great; the set-up being my weenie little SP10 squealing to keep up with Pug's slick Vox amp and Mikey's raucous drumming. On top of that I had just lost my high E string a few days earlier, so I explained "I'll have to curtail the range I'm in a bit". However, being the gentleman that he is, Pug didn't mind lending me the use of his spare E which I started stringing as they broke into a medium-soft modern-rock number as a demonstration of what they're about. Caned off my tits and fumbling with the string as everyone else grooves to the music I suddenly snap out of the zone, realising its no longer there.. I'm turning the peg but its just - gone..?? Fookin snapped it didn't I? Great way to start off the night - breaking a complete stranger's last .009 "my bad", I say..
Next I get my first big shock of the night... "what sort of stuff do you want to play?" Mikey asks me.. following an initial blank I ask them if they know any Beatles. "no" "none?" "none" "none.. shit". I swear my eyes almost popped out I was that surprised. Mental note: Introduce Mikey to The Beatles ASAP in the best manner possible, a veritable baptism of fire; unwittingly having them Jam to blues'd up 'Get Back' tracks, condensing the legend onto 5 CDRs as a present to take away [lol long live the beatles] and just generally turning them on to new tunes. We got through a few interesting Beatle numbers that night between jams [whether they realised or not I'm not really sure as they were mainly the old I-IV-V blues templates anyway] and for the closing few I had them learn 'Tomorrow Never Knows' and 'Twist and Shout' .... [this is getting to be a fucking essay, so I'll finish it tomorrow 8) TO BE CONTINUED]
...continues:
Anyway, the main reason for this post - the tracks we managed to salvage from the 4track tape [really we should have recorded them from the 4track lineout so the levels and panning would stay as we had set them, but I only have a regular tape player to do it from so I've had to limit the tracks as the drums often drowned out the guitar]. There is another tape with stuff from these sessions on it that Mikey has, so eventually I'll get him to sort all that out and we can come up with a nicer cleaner mix for these - or just do some new shit completely... anyway, here are the ones in my possession [recorded on the last night of the summer sessions]...

Hey man, I just managed to remind myself that I was going to finish the post on GLR about the summer jams... but its been so long I can barely remember what happened lol.
Can you remember any of what we did on the second night? Was that the night the call-center called? I remember one of the nights we were chatting about Kerouac outside for ages... and then there was the really insane jamming with the beer-cans and stuff... and we played that tune of yours over a few nights.. Then as far as I can remember, we recorded stuff onto two separate tapes over the last two nights.. also I cant remember how many nights we jammed in total. Is any of this right? I have a feeling I've missed out a hell of a lot, too... anything you or Dan can fill me in on would be much appreciated lol
Also - I haven't done anything on those beats yet, but I will definitely get my ass down and try and come up with something ASAP
Hope all is good in the Nailsea hood,
Ciao for now

Ummmm......
I think we jammed for a week and a half (monday- following thursday, or summat).
I don't remember much of the second night, I think thats when the call centre rang, and you trying to find your pick. I know Pug wasn't there.
I remember being too drunk to drum at all at the end of one night, maybe the night after the beer can night (which was the first wednesday, the same night I wasted my dads sticks, and still carried on playing! I think I was calling meself junior Keith Moon for a day or two after that), but might have been during the second week.
I remember rapping at you boys one night.
Me and Dan got pigged one night, but luckily weren't searched as we had smoke on us.
loads of talk about HST, Lenny Bruce, the Beatles, Zappa etc.
I remember you walking into a wall and having a fuck off bruise, making salty brownies.
You should definately mention John accidently ODing on codiene.
We picked up off your mate Veejay one night.
The song we were jamming to was 'Brand new cadillac' by Vince Taylor/The Clash
Raaa, that's about all I can muster from me memory banks at the mo,sobriety would probably have helped.
Might be worth asking Dan, dunno if you have him as a myspace
mate, if not you should add him, he's on my top friends.
Cheers Bud, look forward to reading it/ hearing ze beats.
Mikie.
Ps it might be worth mentioning as a postscript, the weekend you came down Nailsea. There was some random shit that weekend! Salvia, laughing gas, lopsided vaginas etc.
