Deceptionist Debut [posted 20 July 2006]
So - its like the beginningish of July and my flatmate Lloyd decides it'd be pretty cool to have a party in our new flat to celebrate his birthday. 'Safe' I say. 'Yeah, d'you reckon you could DJ for it?' So I'm like - Yeah, thats fucking cool man. When? The 15th. How long? I dunno, like a few hours? Cool. So I swear to myself I'll cut back on non-productive stuff and practice real hard. Be sober on the night, like - no booze, no shmoke... Two weeks later I'm stood there spot on 10.30 with about an hour or so of safe practised material under my belt, freakin out cuz I don't know how I'm gonna stretch it out to fit the next 3-4 hours and I'm way too fucking sober. So, I decide its time I put myself in the hands of fate and my valuable sidekick Jon passes the spliff and a bottle of stella. Game on. One hour, three bottles and two joints later, the gigs a little quiet - no ones pissed enough yet and they're all chilling upstairs. But its all cool, the real tunes have yet to be unleashed and there are plenty left to play. Thats when I realise that an unnamed source had given me a little bag of 'energy-plus' earlier to give me a boost for the gig. What the fuck, I thought - on comes a long dub tune to give me some time and upstairs I run. A couple minutes later my head is pounding and I'm back downstairs blasting some truly fat beats. Within the next half an hour everyones gotten just that little bit more trashed and the room gets a bit more filled and all the best tunes come out and everything goes better than I could have even imagined. So, after all that paranoid gibberish about not getting fucked when I mix and staying sober I learned something today - getting legless didn't make me suck - it somehow made me even better and a thoroughly good time was had by all - and where would the party be without a good time!? In conclusion: Drugs are good, and make you smarter

Fun fun fun in the corner corner corner [posted 1 November 2006]
Well... my apologies for the 27th October - that was a well and truly appalling performance. In my defense my PC died on thursday night and I lost my entire music collection. [Thats right - I may have lost all of my music - gay.], so for a while I didn't think I could play at all. Handily Matt was able to save the day by donating his computer and music for the cause. Kudos, Matt - nice one. So if you thought the set was shit, well - there you go. I only had a couple of hours to get it together, so fuck you. Unfortunately, by having to use Matt's music the night lost a bit of the eclectic vibe I had planned for, but he had a nice big selection of hip-hop tunes for me to use, so really - who cares? Its a pity I didn't get to use as much of the material I had practiced with, there was some pretty sweet stuff I had planned. But to be honest, as nothing more than a drunk/stoned lunge into some sort of semblence of a half-decent set I didn't think it went too badly. I had plenty of fun - blatantly the party people partied and the grooveriders got down - [how cheesy was that?!] - whether or not the music helped remains to be seen.
Memories of the second half into the wee hours are a bit hazy - I seem to remember "Sparey, he's Tom Sparey - its Sparey, its Sparey Sparey.... Sparey Sparey ...... he's Tom Sparey, fuckin right!!" - sorry about that. Stuck in that corner for hours drinking cans of stella gets a person riled up pretty easy, and if you add a mic to that then that's a ticking time-bomb - But fuck... yeah - that really is about the extent of my memories of the second half - um, great.
Thanks to all of you who got your party-headz on from the UWN ski and snowboard club - and to anyone else who bothered to show.. Also thx to the people who told me I did well at the end - you shameless shameless liars. Thanzxski to the people who got up and danced, where would the parties be without you? my respect goes out to you. Hope you guys had as much fun as I did...
Look out for a wicked Kill Bill remix - safe
